2020 TNS Libraries COVID-19 Updates and Resources

Libraries Hours & Locations

All of The New School Libraries' physical spaces are closed for the remainder of the COVID-19 disruption. We will reopen physical spaces as soon as we can in adherence with local and state laws and in conjunction with the reopening of university buildings.

Fines are suspended and all due dates have been extended to September 8, 2020. This includes materials checked out from NYU's Bobst Library and via E-Z Borrow. Please do not return your items at this time! (See 'Returning Materials' below for more details.) If you have any concerns, please Ask Us.

All electronic resources remain available to our community on our website and while staff has been temporarily reduced for the summer, remote services remain operational. Library staff will continue to review all requests for electronic materials.

Access to Materials

Physical materials:

  • Access to all consortial libraries including NYU's Bobst Library and Cooper Union is not available at this time. 

  • The New York Public Library is closed. (See updates & information about NYPL's online resources here.) 

  • E-ZBorrow is no longer available. 

  • Inter-Library Loan (ILL) services are currently suspended for print materials. Unfortunately, pending requests will not be able to be fulfilled. To see if there are alternatives, please Ask Us.

  • Books and DVDs that are on reserve will be inaccessible until the libraries reopen.  If you need assistance finding an electronic replacement or an alternative solution please Ask Us.

Electronic materials:

  • ILL requests for scans of book chapters and articles will be fulfilled whenever possible.

  • Scans of offsite material may still be requested through the catalog. 

  • All electronic resources remain available to our community on our website.

  • Library staff will continue to review all requests for electronic materials.

  • Our remote services remain fully staffed.

Returning Materials

  • Library fines are suspended and not accruing. In addition, we’re currently not collecting payments for fines.

  • Library holds on transcripts or registrations due to COVID-19 related issues can be temporarily lifted to allow students to graduate and order transcripts. Please Ask Us if you need a hold lifted.

  • Please do not return your items, including E-ZBorrow books. However, if you need to return materials because of extenuating circumstances, please Ask Us (libhelp@newschool.edu).
