New York City Research Guide

Find resources on researching neighborhoods in the 5 boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island

Databases

To access: Go to the library website and click on 'Browse Databases.'  The databases are organized alphabetically, by subject, and by type.

Ask Us if you need help selecting a research database, or if you have any suggestions or recommendations.

Library databases complement the library catalog.  We subscribe to hundreds of research databases and the library catalog links to only a portion of them.

Many of our databases index periodical articles -- newspapers, magazines, and scholarly journals.  They allow you to perform complex searches, and they feature tools for managing research.

NYC Historic Districts

Check out the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission website's Designation Reports.  These well-researched reports describe the history, architecture and development of historical neighborhoods throughout the city's 5 boroughs.
