How do I access the New School Archives and Special Collections, including the Kellen Design Archives?

This guide explains everything researchers need to know about accessing the New School Archives and Special Collections.

Who can use the New School Archives and Special Collections?

We are open to:

  • all students (part-time and full-time), including undergraduates and continuing education students
  • alumni and former students
  • faculty and teaching assistants
  • staff
  • independent researchers
  • designers (professional and amateur)

There are no qualifications for accessing the New School Archives' collections.

You do not need to be affiliated with Parsons or The New School to use the Archives' collections, nor must you be affiliated with an educational institution.

Conducting research in the New School Archives and Special Collections is free to all researchers.

However, please be aware that the Archives charges for scans of images as well as digitization of audio and video records from the Archives' collections. Additionally, we charge a fee for conducting over one hour of research on behalf of users who do not visit the Archives in person.
