Finding Books at The New School and in Our Consortium

Catalog Searching
The Advanced Search option for our catalog allows more options to focus a search at the first stage. One can limit, for instance, by Material Type to books in the pull down menu on the right side.

Catalog Search Tips

Step 1: From the homepage, click on the Advanced Search button

Step 2: Using the Field menu, choose Subject; in the search box, type in the word History and [your subject]; under the Material Type menu choose Books.

The results, in this case, are a broad scope of material related to New York City's history. Start to narrow your results using the limiters in the left hand column (if necessary, of course).

The New York City Public library system has vast holdings, particularly at its research branches. You may apply for a card from the homepage (click on Get A Library Card on the top of the webpage).

The Internet Archive

Internet Archive Digital Library
A valuable free resource. By setting up a free account, you might discover scanned copies of books that you can borrow for a certain period of time. Tip: in your searches use only the title or only the author of books you're looking for.
