Wikipedia
Wikipedia is not necessarily accepted as a scholarly source (it depends on the context, how one is using the source, and to what forum one is presenting the information). But, articles on a relevant topic might be useful by looking at what is cited: books, articles, and primary sources.
Encyclopedia Britannica Online
This is the online version of the classic encyclopedia. If you are using through the library's homepage, via our proxy server, you will avoid ads.

An example of finding print reference books:

1) From the LIBRARY HOMEPAGE, click on ADVANCED SEARCH

2) Limit to BOOKS using the pull down menu for MATERIAL TYPE

3) In the ANY FIELD menu, choose SUBJECT, and type in the keywords ENCYCLOPEDIAS HISTORY

4) In the SHOW ONLY menu, click HELD BY LIBRARY
