Copyright & Fair Use For Faculty

The New School Libraries and Archives have created a Course Reserves system within Canvas to assist faculty with licensing and distributing course related material.

Use the Course Reserves tab in Canvas to request all of your course materials that may require permission or a special license to share with your students.  You may use Course Reserves to upload open-access material as well as request physical material such as Books and DVDs.

What happens next?

Library staff will assess copyright concerns for every item that you request.  For material that has no copyright restriction, the library will make it available to your students.  When something is protected by copyright, library staff will pursue permissions on behalf of you and your students.

Purchasing/licensing requests are generally filled within 2 weeks except during peak times such as the beginning of the semester.
