The library strives to operate within the bounds of current copyright law and accessibility standards. If you add items to your list that are not available electronically in full text through the library, you can upload a PDF or request digitization. The library will review uploaded files and digitization requests and--whenever possible--obtain any necessary scans and pay any applicable copyright clearance fees as well as check for accessibility (FAQ: How do I ensure the accessibility of online course content?).
However, do note that sometimes the library is unable to fulfill all requests due to copyright restrictions or licensing agreements or unavailability. In those cases, a librarian will reach out to discuss alternatives. Please contact Ask Us [libhelp@newschool.edu] with questions.
Click the + Add button to see the numerous ways to add readings to your list.
Search the library allows you to search the library's digital and physical collections and select the specific items you want.
You may add any electronic or physical library holdings that you can find here. Electronic materials will be accessible by your students through Canvas at any time. For physical materials, you will be asked to specify which library should house the item on their reserve shelf. These items will be available to your students to borrow in person for up to four hours.
Add using DOI or ISBN is a great way to add specific articles or books that you do not find listed in the library catalog. Our staff will locate the specified article or purchase a copy of the book you want to add in an electronic edition if such an edition is available to us.
If you have a specific file you want to upload, such as a scan of chapter of a book in your personal collection, choose Upload files.
If you want to add items from a reference manager like RefWorks or Zotero, choose Import references. You can use this option to import entire bibliographies that you have assembled with RefWorks, or any bibliographic manager that will export references in RIS or BibTex format.
Another way to add items to your lists is using the Cite It! browser extension.
To install this extension, open the settings menu near the top right side of your reading list and select "Cite it!": An animation will guide you through installing the Cite it button to your browser's bookmark bar.
Cite it! can grab item data from all over the open web. See a book on Oxford Press' website that you want your students to read? Click Cite it! right from their listing!
...verify the item details, select the correct reading list, and click the red "Add" button. If the Libraries do not already own a copy of the book, we will purchase one-- in an electronic format if that is available-- and make it visible to your students.
Try Cite it! on any website.
If you would like the library to perform OCR on your reading to make it text-to-speech capable or even to just check your reading for accessibility, send us a note. Here's how:
1. Point at the item in question and click "Full details"
2. Select "Notify Library Staff"
3. Write us a nice note:
