What is a Mediated Image?

Some of your instructors might refer to the concept of a "mediated image."  What does this mean?

In the context of Fashion History 1850-2000, a mediated image should be taken to mean "an image presented in a historical context."    Please try to steer clear of theatrical costume, religious dress, or work or military uniforms.
